Very little is known of the family of Johann ROHDE and Anna WANSZEWSKA. Illinois marriage record databases list a marriage between John ROHDE and Anna WASERSKI, which occurred on October 9, 1882. It is unknown if the name is correctly WANSZEWSKA or WASERSKI. On Anna's daughter Martha's death certificate, the spelling is WANSZEWSKA.

A suggestion was made by another researcher, that the name could be We~sierska ("Veng-shee-air-ska"), which is the feminine form of We~sierski. He said that the name was used by the branches of several families that at one time or another held part of all of the noble manor of We~siory (Wensiory in German) which lies in the powiat (county) of Kartuzy (Karthaus) and in the parish of Sule~czyn (Sullenscin). He stated that branches of the Bronk, Cieszyca, Dryusz, Drywa, Dul~ak, Golian, Go~rny, Gruba, Gruchal~a, Gruszka, Kostka, Nagat, Nago~rny, Szpak, and Wol~owy families took the name.
